It’s been quite a while since there’s been a friday’s favs post, not for the lack of favs just for the lack of …. well I guess I’ve just been lazy. But today seems like a good day for one and this one is really GOOD.

Last week a new book hit the Akron market, it’s called “A is for Akron”. The book is about the great people, places and events that Akron has to offer in alphabet style.  Written by two local gals, it’s full of pictures and history about this town. Check out their website, facebook page.  The book can be purchased locally at Square Records, Hazel Tree Interiors, Devilstrip Dolly or online here.

So, yesterday as I was reading the book my sweet boy Marlin wanted to get in on the action and find some new things to do as well. He’s locally born and raised and even put on his vintage Akron Aeros t-shirt to get in the spirit.  He sat down, did a little reading, and made a to do list!  He’s pretty excited to pee on the devil strip, take a long walk on the towpath, run around at Lock 3 and even watch me run the Akron Marathon later this year!  He’s also planning on buying me a birthday gift at Don Drumm Studios this year, but I’m not suppose to know about that ;)!  The book is definitely Marlin approved so go out and get it today!

Please don’t judge me people, it’s been a really long winter and this kinda stuff makes me stupid happy! Marlin is the best sport and so is my friend who hand modeled for this shoot!  Thanks Karl!

Friday’s Favs – Travel (2013 recap)

I’ve been meaning to blog my travels during 2013 but it never quite happened, busy, busy.  Today seems like a good day for it, it’s cold and snowy and cold.  So lets look at some warm pictures from 2013. I’ve always loved traveling and although I didn’t get to do a lot of it in […]

I’ve been meaning to blog my travels during 2013 but it never quite happened, busy, busy.  Today seems like a good day for it, it’s cold and snowy and cold.  So lets look at some warm pictures from 2013.

I’ve always loved traveling and although I didn’t get to do a lot of it in the past, 2013 was definitely a travel year for me.  Even “attempted” camping at Hocking Hill, thankfully there is no photographic proof of it. No actual sleeping in a tent happened either, sneaking Marlin (my pup) into a Motel was adventurous enough and definitely unforgettable!

The travel year started off in Las Vegas for WPPI (wedding and portrait photographers international).  Knowing that later during the year I would be visiting the real Eiffel Tower I wanted to also see the “mini” version!  Even went to the top of this one, although it was super scary.  Tami, thanks for holding my hand! lol

At the beginning of May it was time for THE trip I’ve been patiently awaiting.  Poland and France to be exact.  I started in Poland, my homeland.  This first image is my favorite from the trip! The white stork is seen throughout and is the unofficial bird of Poland. It was so exciting to see one especially with a baby in the nest.  I remember always being mesmerized by the stork, as a little girl growing up in Poland.  It was so big and massive but so dang pretty with that red beak and legs. It was cartoon like to me, my aunt even taught me how to draw one.  Sometimes when I doodle (I like to doodle) it mysteriously shows up on the paper. The rest of the images are a small collection from different places I visited during the one week stay. Last 4 are from my hometown, Jaroslaw.  I gorgeous city located in the southeast of Poland.

Then came France, what I’ve been waiting for.  The reason for the entire trip in the first place was this wedding.  And the second reason, the real Eiffel Tower.  I’ve been fascinated by it since I first saw a picture my dad took of it many many years ago. Finally I got to see it myself, and it was everything I was hoping for.  Magnificent! Didn’t end up going to the top but just being at the second level was everything I dreamed of!  Some of the other places that I visited were Versailles, Normandy Beach and the cutest little town called City of Flowers, and even got to spent some time at a real French farm.  The entire time felt like a movie, a FRENCH movie – hahaha! Even got to see some real bikers which, to me, was almost as good as the Eiffel tower since I’m a huge Tour de France fan.

I was trying to photograph the country side but landscape photographer I am NOT.  Pet/animal is way more up my alley. So when a real FRENCH LAB was just laying on the sidewalk in Paris, how could I resist! The rest of my gorgeous animal friends lived on the farm that I visited.  Yes, the goat name Dolly who though she was one of the dogs, was my other fav.

In June it was time for Florida, no real camera on this trip but this iPhone photo is one of my absolute favs.  Sunset at Clearwater Beach, it doesn’t even look real.

Then in August it was my birthday time. This year, to celebrate the last year in the 30’s, I decided to go to the shore.  The Jersey Shore of course!! My friend Sarah was nice enough to make this journey with me, it was different but we definitely had fun!

In September, a little safari right here in Ohio in the Amish country.  Not too shabby for Ohio.  If you didn’t notice, I love photographing animals.

Then finally in October I headed off to Myrtle Beach, to photograph a wedding.  On the last day of my stay I woke up early to watch the sunrise.  As I walk down to the beach I saw some surfers.  I ran back up to my room to grab my camera and took some of these shots.  The waves were huge, and the surfers were cool to photograph.

For a while now I have known that I’m obsessed with my dog but after reading this, it has been confirmed.  I am all except #14, and only because I didn’t know what it was.  That being said, Marlin turned 2 and I had a party for him! Complete with guests, one being his gorgeous sister Rhubarb. The other two are Naya the Great Dane and Dillon the Boxer, both super adorbs.  All the doggies got party hats, nice fresh soup bones, treat bags and and even a photo booth.  I’m pretty sure everyone had a great time and Marlin loved his guests and present.  He was such a happy boy and passed out as soon as everyone left.  Birthday Parties rock!

Fridays Favs – Birthdays (Doggie)

November 8th, 2013

This week was a very special one, Marlin turned 2 on Wednesday.  Two for labs is a magic age, so they say.  It’s when they are no longer puppies, they slow down blah blah ….personally I don’t really believe it.  Baci never slowed down after he turned 2, or ever.  Marlin on the other hand, […]

This week was a very special one, Marlin turned 2 on Wednesday.  Two for labs is a magic age, so they say.  It’s when they are no longer puppies, they slow down blah blah ….personally I don’t really believe it.  Baci never slowed down after he turned 2, or ever.  Marlin on the other hand, is a totally different dog.  He is super dopey, lazy and cuddly and really not hyper but he gets into lots of trouble when left alone.  Chewing stuff kind of trouble.  Nevertheless, we celebrated this important milestone the only way I know how, with the annual birthday photo shoot, presents, and “cupcake smash”.  Marlin had such a great time and although his presents were not a bag of remotes, like he had requested, the cupcake and donkey made up for it. He’s such a happy and handsome guy.

Have a great weekend everyone, we are continuing the celebration on Sunday with a special party just for my special guy. I’m crazy but you already know that!

It’s been quite a while since I posted a Friday’s Favs.  It’s been busy here at JaNicki Photography, I’m even behind on posting real session but had to make an exception for this post.

I would like to preface this post by saying that, I’m going to be 40 in less than a year and I have no human children, not that it makes it ok but give me some slack people and please don’t judge.

For those of you that know me in real life, you know that I like Halloween, and you probably know that I’m crazy about my boys (Marlin and Coopie).  Even if you don’t know me in real life you probably know how crazy I am about my animals.  That being said, last year both my boys participated in the Halloween spirit and this was their photoshoot.  This year …. well here’s the story.  A few weeks back while shopping with my photographer friend Marianne (of Black Box Photography), we came across this lobster/crab costume.  Imagining Marlin as a crustacean made me laugh out loud, literally.  Wheels went spinning right away!!! I want to dress up with him and have our pictures taken, I screamed!!! The horrified look on Marianne’s face was priceless especially since she quickly realized that she would be the lucky photographer to document this madness.

What goes with a lobster/crab??? I asked.  Mermaid Ariel, she said.  Oh sweet geezus, this was really going to happen.  Ariel and her crab Sebastian were decided right there in the aisles of the HomeGoods store.  The vision I had that day, is exactly what you see in these images below.  I’m over the moon!  I love you Marianne, I will treasure these forever!

p.s. I have never laughed so much as the day of the shoot (before, during and after).  Honestly, I’m still laughing!! Best day ever!!!!!!!!
